This policy is written in plain language because we know legal pages are rarely anyone's favorite reading. If anything here is unclear, or you'd like more detail on how your information is handled, contact us any time at the address at the bottom of this page.

The Next Chapter ("we", "us", "our") publishes and sells "The Next Chapter — Post-Divorce Recovery Workbook," a digital PDF product, through this website. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit this site or make a purchase, how it's used, and what choices and rights you have — including rights specific to the UK, the European Economic Area (EEA), and US states such as California.

Who is responsible for your information

For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, The Next Chapter is the "data controller" of the personal information described in this policy — meaning we decide why and how it's processed. Our contact details are at the bottom of this page.

What we collect

We keep the information we collect to the minimum needed to sell and deliver the workbook:

Purchase and contact information. When you buy the workbook, checkout is handled entirely by Stripe, our payment processor. Stripe collects your email address and payment details directly on its own checkout page — this information does not pass through or get stored on our website or servers. We receive confirmation that a purchase was made and the email address needed to ensure you can access your download, but we never see or store your card details.
Standard web activity. Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log basic technical information when you visit — such as browser type, general location (country or city level, inferred from IP address), and which pages were viewed — for security and basic site-performance purposes. This is not used to personally identify you.
Anything you send us directly. If you email us with a question, we'll have whatever information you choose to include in that message.

Cookies

This site uses one tracking tool: the Meta Pixel, which lets us see whether someone who clicked one of our Facebook or Instagram ads went on to buy the workbook, so we know which ads are actually working. We don't use any other advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics cookies beyond this. Stripe's checkout page may set its own strictly necessary cookies to process your payment securely and prevent fraud — these are governed by Stripe's own privacy and cookie practices, not ours. If we ever add further analytics or marketing tools in future, we'll update this policy and, where required by law, ask for your consent first.

How we use your information, and our legal basis for doing so

Under UK/EU data protection law, we need a valid legal basis for each way we use your information. Here's how that applies:

To process your purchase and deliver the workbook you paid for — necessary to perform our contract with you.
To respond if you contact us with a question or support request — necessary to perform our contract, or our legitimate interest in providing customer support.
To meet our own legal, accounting, and tax obligations, such as keeping sales records — necessary to comply with a legal obligation.
To send purchase-related communications, such as a receipt or a note about your order — necessary to perform our contract.

We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. The one exception is the Meta Pixel described above, which Meta uses on its own systems to measure ad performance and may use for its own advertising purposes under its own privacy policy — beyond that, we don't build advertising profiles from your information ourselves.

A note on the sensitive nature of this site

We're aware that people often visit a site like this one during a difficult, private time. We do not ask for, collect, or store any details about your personal circumstances, relationship status, or health — the workbook itself is the product; nothing about why you're buying it is any of our business, and we've deliberately kept our data collection to the minimum needed to complete a sale.

Third-party processors

We rely on a small number of trusted third parties to run this site and deliver your purchase:

Stripe — processes payments and handles checkout. Stripe is PCI-DSS compliant and maintains its own privacy policy, available at stripe.com/privacy.
Meta (Facebook/Instagram) — the Meta Pixel installed on this site measures ad performance, as described in the Cookies section above. Meta processes this data under its own privacy policy, available at facebook.com/privacy/policy.
Our hosting provider — serves this website and may log basic technical/security data as described above.

We do not control how these third parties use data beyond what's necessary to provide their service to us, and we encourage you to review their own privacy policies for full detail. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

Data retention

We keep purchase records for as long as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes. Stripe retains payment information according to its own retention policies, which we do not control. If you'd like your contact information removed from any records we hold beyond what we're legally required to retain, contact us and we'll action this promptly.

Your rights if you're in the UK or the European Economic Area

Under UK GDPR and EU GDPR, you have the right to:

Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it (right of access)
Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information (right to rectification)
Ask us to delete your information, where we're not required to keep it for legal reasons (right to erasure)
Ask us to restrict or object to certain processing of your information
Receive your information in a portable, machine-readable format (right to data portability)
Withdraw consent at any point, where processing is based on consent
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — in the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EEA, your national supervisory authority

Your rights if you're a California resident (or covered by another US state privacy law)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA, and similar laws in other US states, you have the right to:

Know what personal information we've collected about you and why
Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions
Correct inaccurate personal information
Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of, but you're welcome to confirm this with us any time
Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights — we will never charge you a different price or provide a different level of service because you've exercised a privacy right

You can exercise any of the rights above — regardless of where you live — by contacting us using the details below. We aim to honor these requests for every visitor as a matter of practice, not only where required by law. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests, and we'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

International data transfers

This site can be accessed from anywhere, and your information may be processed in countries other than the one you live in — including by Stripe, which operates internationally, primarily in the United States. Where personal information is transferred out of the UK or EEA, we rely on the safeguards our providers have in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent approved transfer mechanisms, to help ensure your information continues to receive an appropriate level of protection.

Children's privacy

This workbook and website are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new tool to the site or change providers. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. We encourage you to check back occasionally if you'd like to stay informed.
